The International Journal of Medical Students (IJMS) is a nonprofit scholarly organization committed to advancing medical-student research, scientific communication, editorial education, and Diamond Open Access publishing.

The Journal does not charge authors submission fees or article processing charges, and readers have immediate free access to published content. Financial, institutional, philanthropic, grant, sponsorship, and in-kind support help sustain this model and expand the Journal's scientific and educational activities.

Why Support the IJMS?

Diamond Open Access removes charges for both authors and readers, but scholarly publishing still requires editorial administration, publishing infrastructure, production, metadata management, preservation, research-integrity processes, communications, and organizational support.

Supporting the IJMS helps preserve access to publication for emerging researchers without transferring these costs to individual authors.

Ways to Support

Support may be financial or in-kind and may be unrestricted or directed toward an approved Journal activity.

Type of Support Description
Individual Donations Charitable contributions supporting the general scientific, educational, publishing, and nonprofit mission of the Journal.
Institutional Support Financial or operational support from universities, medical schools, teaching hospitals, libraries, research organizations, departments, and other eligible institutions.
Foundation & Grant Support Funding for eligible publishing, educational, research-development, or organizational activities.
Program Sponsorship Support directed toward an approved Journal initiative, educational program, or other defined mission-aligned activity. Organizations interested specifically in supporting the IJMS World Conference of Medical Student Research should review the WCMSR Sponsors & Partners page.
In-Kind Contributions Technology, software, communications, educational resources, professional services, production support, venue access, or other nonfinancial contributions.

Organizations seeking publication of conference or institutional scholarly material should review Supplements & Scholarly Collections. Institutions seeking a broader research-development collaboration should review Institutional Research Partnerships.

Unrestricted support is allocated according to Journal priorities. Restricted support may be accepted for approved activities when its purpose and conditions are consistent with the IJMS mission, policies, and editorial independence.

Stewardship, Recognition & Independence

The International Journal of Medical Students (IJMS) operates as a nonprofit scholarly organization and is recognized in the United States as a tax-exempt public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Editorial independence: Financial, institutional, philanthropic, sponsorship, or in-kind support does not confer authority over manuscript evaluation, peer review, acceptance, rejection, publication, or post-publication actions. The IJMS retains control of its scientific standards and scholarly record.

The IJMS may acknowledge significant financial, institutional, grant, sponsorship, or in-kind support when appropriate. Recognition does not imply endorsement of a contributor's products, services, commercial activities, or other positions.

The Journal may decline support when its source, purpose, conditions, or associated obligations could compromise—or reasonably appear to compromise—the scientific integrity, independence, reputation, or nonprofit mission of the IJMS.

Examples of recognition
  • acknowledgment on an appropriate Journal webpage;
  • identification in an annual or program report;
  • recognition associated with a supported conference or educational initiative;
  • acknowledgment within a supplement or scholarly collection when applicable; or
  • other forms of recognition agreed in advance.

Support the IJMS

Individuals may contribute through the Journal's donation platform. Institutions, foundations, research organizations, companies, and other supporters may contact the Journal regarding institutional support, grants, program funding, sponsorship, or in-kind contributions.
