Submission Checklist

Complete this checklist before submitting a new manuscript to the International Journal of Medical Students (IJMS). It is designed to identify missing files, inconsistent information, inadequate masking, and other avoidable problems that may delay editorial processing.

This page is a final verification tool. Detailed requirements are provided in the Instructions for Authors, Article Types, and Manuscript Preparation pages.

1. Eligibility and Article Type

Check Requirement
The manuscript is relevant to medicine, health, healthcare, medical education, public health, biomedical science, clinical practice, or the development of future clinicians and researchers.
At least one author satisfies the Journal’s author eligibility requirements.
Each author made a substantial intellectual contribution to the conception or design of the work; the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data or other scholarly material; or the drafting or critical revision of the manuscript, as applicable to the article type. All authors approve the final version and accept accountability for their contributions.
The manuscript has been assigned to the correct article type.
The author group includes a senior researcher when required for the selected article type.
A narrative review or systematic review without meta-analysis is submitted only after invitation or prior approval from the Editor-in-Chief.

2. Required Submission Files

Check Requirement
A separate editable title-page file is ready for upload.
A separate editable masked-manuscript file is ready for upload.
The title page and masked manuscript represent the same manuscript version.
The manuscript title is identical in both files.
The file names clearly identify their contents.
The masked-manuscript file name does not contain an author’s name.
Optional supporting files are clearly named, cited in the manuscript when applicable, and ready for upload.

3. Title Page

Check Requirement
The complete manuscript title and selected article type are stated.
Every author’s full name is listed in the approved publication order.
Each author’s degree or training status, affiliation, city, and country are provided.
An ORCID identifier is provided for each author when available. Authors without one are encouraged to register.
The corresponding author’s name, affiliation, and email address are provided.
The About the Author statement identifies the first listed eligible medical student or recently graduated physician.
Acknowledgments are complete and permission has been obtained from named individuals.
The funding statement identifies all financial, institutional, material, or grant support, or explicitly states that no funding was received.
The conflict-of-interest statement is complete.
The CRediT author-contribution statement includes every author.
Case Report highlights are included when applicable and removed for other article types.
The abstract and manuscript word counts and the number of tables and figures are stated.

4. Masked Manuscript

Check Requirement
The masked manuscript contains the title, abstract when required, keywords, main text, references, tables, figures, and figure legends.
Author names, degrees, ORCID identifiers, correspondence details, and named CRediT contributions have been removed.
Identifying acknowledgments, social-media accounts, headers, footers, comments, and tracked changes have been removed.
Author names and identifying information have been removed from the document properties and revision history.
Self-citations are written neutrally and do not use identifying phrases such as “our previous study.”
Necessary information about the study setting, ethics approval, methodology, geography, funding, and conflicts has not been removed merely for masking.
The manuscript remains scientifically complete and understandable after masking.

Important: Double-masked review does not require authors to remove information essential for scientific interpretation. Mask the authors, not the research.

5. Ethics, Authorship, and Disclosures

Check Requirement
All authors have reviewed and approved the manuscript and submission information.
The author list and author order are final and approved by every author.
The manuscript is not under consideration by another journal.
The manuscript has not been published previously, except as permitted under Journal policy.
Applicable ethics approval, exemption, or institutional review information is reported.
The ethics approval or exemption number is included when one was issued.
Applicable informed-consent procedures and authorized waivers are reported.
Consent for publication has been obtained when a patient or other individual may be identifiable.
Applicable clinical-trial, protocol, or prospective registration information is reported.
A data-availability statement is included when applicable.
Permissions have been obtained for reproduced, adapted, copyrighted, or identifiable material.
Any prior abstract, poster, oral presentation, thesis, preprint, or conference presentation has been disclosed.

Consult the Journal’s Research Ethics, Authorship and Disclosures, and Research Integrity policies when a requirement is unclear.

6. Manuscript Content

Check Requirement
The manuscript contains all sections required for the selected article type.
The abstract does not exceed the applicable limit and is consistent with the main text.
At least three appropriate keywords are included when required.
The Methods section provides sufficient information to evaluate the work.
The appropriate reporting guideline has been followed.
Statistical or qualitative methods are described clearly and accurately.
Results are reported without interpretation that belongs in the Discussion.
The Discussion addresses the findings, relevant literature, strengths, limitations, and appropriate implications.
The Conclusion does not overstate the evidence or introduce new information.
The manuscript is written in clear, professional, respectful, and nonstigmatizing language.
Abbreviations are defined at first use and used consistently.

References

Check Requirement
Every in-text citation appears in the reference list.
Every reference-list entry is cited in the manuscript.
The references use one complete and consistent scholarly style.
Author names, titles, journals, publication years, volumes, issues, pages, and article numbers have been verified.
Each reference supports the statement for which it is cited.

Tables and Figures

Check Requirement
Every table and figure is cited in numerical order.
Tables are editable and have clear titles, headings, units, and notes.
Figures are clear, legible, appropriately labeled, and accompanied by complete legends.
Abbreviations and symbols used in tables and figures are defined.
Tables and figures do not unnecessarily duplicate information in the text.
Clinical images and other files have been checked for patient or participant identifiers.
Image adjustments do not obscure, remove, or misrepresent information.

Supplementary Material

Check Requirement
Every supplementary item is cited in the manuscript.
Supplementary files use clear titles and numbering.
Supplementary content is complete, relevant, appropriately masked, and suitable for publication.

7. OJS Metadata

Check Requirement
The correct journal section or article type has been selected.
The title entered in OJS is identical to the title in both manuscript files.
The abstract entered in OJS is complete and identical to the submitted abstract.
Keywords have been entered accurately.
Every author has been added individually to the submission record.
The author order in OJS matches the title page.
Each author’s name, email address, affiliation, and country are accurate, and the ORCID identifier is accurate when provided.
The correct corresponding author has been identified.
The title page and masked manuscript have been assigned to the correct file designations.
All uploaded files open correctly and contain the intended content.

8. Final Author Confirmation

Check Final confirmation
All authors have reviewed and approved the final submitted version.
All authors approve the author list and order.
All information entered in OJS is accurate and complete.
The correct versions of every file have been uploaded.
The corresponding author is authorized to communicate with the Journal on behalf of every author.
The corresponding author will keep all coauthors informed of editorial decisions and required actions.
The authors understand that submission does not guarantee external peer review, acceptance, or publication.

Checklist for Revised Submissions

Use this section only after the Journal has invited a revision. Revised files must be uploaded to the existing manuscript record. Do not begin a new submission.

Check Revision requirement
A point-by-point response addresses every editorial and reviewer comment.
Each response identifies where the corresponding change appears in the revised manuscript.
Any comment not followed is answered respectfully with a clear rationale.
The revised manuscript contains all approved changes.
Changes are marked or highlighted when requested by the Editorial Team.
The revised masked manuscript remains free of unnecessary author-identifying information.
A revised title page is included when authorship, affiliations, correspondence, acknowledgments, funding, disclosures, or CRediT contributions have changed.
Any requested reporting checklist, permission, ethics document, figure file, or supporting material is included.
All authors have reviewed and approved the revised version.
The revision is being submitted within the stated deadline or an extension was requested before the deadline.
