In this section, you can find out what is happening at the International Journal of Medical Students, our latest announcements, updates. and call for submissions or applications for positions.

We accept all-year-round applications for Ambassadors, Peer-Reviewers, Partner Institutions/Organizations, and Interns. There is no fee for applying to positions.

• Ambassadors: Ambassadors are in charge of the Journal promotion among peers and affiliated institutions. They should be engaged, empowered and active teamwork members able to get social network followers and submissions from their institutions. If you would like to pursue this position, there is a test period before you become a full ambassador of IJMS. To apply, please send a copy of your CV to the Director of Communications and Public Relations at communications@ijms.info cc'ing editor.in.chief@ijms.info.

• Partners: These are medical Students' or Professionals' organizations interested in promoting medical students' and recently graduated physicians' research locally or globally. We have an application form instructions to apply that you can download from here. If you have a conference, we will publish your abstracts book based on the agreement details signed by the Head of your organization and the Editor in Chief of IJMS. For a list of our partners, please check our Sponsors.

• Internship for in-house writers: the IJMS is an excellent place to grow academically and professionally through volunteering in different roles and leadership positions that the Journal offers in an international and collaborative environment. Essentially, you will learn every facet of putting together a scientific journal, from brainstorming story ideas to updating databases and proofreading. Read more about the Internship here.

• Peer-Reviewers: If you have experience doing research, publications in PubMed, and h-index above 5, and just some time to spare to reviewing articles from medical students and recently graduated physicias around the globe, then you are an excellent candidate to become an IJMS Peer-Reviewer. You will be contacted only when a submission in your area of interest is submitted and you can decline the requests at any time. Please email editor.in.chief@ijms.info with the subject: Application for Peer-Reviewer, and describing the following information in the email content: Full name, Degrees, Affiliations, Reviewing interest, ORCID, and a link to your publications preferably to PubMed. The IJMS supports Publons, therefore, every time that you review for us, you will be acknowledged and you can accumulate your revisions in their dataset and your own account.

  Open Positions:

  1. Student Editors

     • Requirements: Students with publications indexed in PubMed.
     • Role: You will review 2–3 articles per month, ensuring the quality and rigor of our journal.

  2. Junior Student Editors

     • Requirements: Medical students without prior publications but with a strong interest in learning the editorial and peer-review process.
     • Role: Gatekeepers of the journal's quality, trained in peer reviews and ethics in publication.

  3. Associate Editors

     • Requirements: Students or early-career physicians with an h-index of 5+ and a proven track record within IJMS.
     • Role: Managing manuscripts, mentoring junior editors, and contributing to the journal’s strategic growth.

As we finalize preparations for the WCMSR, scheduled for October 26th, 2024, on our YouTube channel, we are excited to share that the agenda of speakers has been selected, and we are in the final stages before this grand event.   This issue includes an impressive range of articles.     • For original research: Background, Aim, Methods, Results, Conclusion.
    • For case reports: Background, Case, Conclusion.
  • Word Count: Maximum 500 words.
  • Additional Requirements: Include 3-5 keywords (MeSH-NLM) and one figure or table.
  • Originality: Submissions must be original and not previously published or under consideration elsewhere.
  • Submission Fee: $10 USD via PayPal. Please keep a record of your transaction.

  • At least one author must be a current medical student or a physician within three years post-graduation.

  Dear Readers and Researchers,

  The IJMS World Conference of Medical Student Research (WCMSR) is fast approaching, and we are excited to invite you to submit your research abstracts! This online event will be held on October 26th, 2024, and provides an excellent opportunity to showcase your work to a global audience of peers, mentors, and renowned professionals in the field. You can register to watch the conference live in our YouTube channel here. 

  We believe this conference will significantly contribute to integrating medical students and young physicians into the medical research community. It is also an excellent platform to build networks, foster international collaborations, and inspire continued dedication to advancing a more inclusive scientific society.

  Submission Guidelines and Requirements:

  • Deadline for Abstract Submission: August 31st, 2024
  • Abstracts must be submitted via the IJMS website using the provided Abstract Template. Ensure that your submission is in the "Abstracts of the WCMSR" section.
  • Abstract Types Accepted: Original research (including basic science studies, observational studies, analytical studies, meta-analyses, experimental and quasi-experimental studies) and case reports.
  • Structure Requirements:
    • For original research: Background, Aim, Methods, Results, Conclusion.
    • For case reports: Background, Case, Conclusion.
  • Maximum word count: 500 words.
  • Include 3-5 keywords (MeSH-NLM) and one figure or table.
  • Abstracts must be original and not previously published or currently under consideration by another journal.
  • A submission fee of $10 USD is required through PayPal. Please keep a record of your transaction as proof of payment.

  Author Eligibility:

  • At least one author must be a current medical student or a physician within the first three years post-graduation.
  • Maximum of six authors per abstract. For more than six, please contact the IJMS Conference Team to specify each author's role.
  • Authors must create and link their ORCID iD with their metadata in the Submission Form.

  Awards and Recognition: Top presentations will receive awards, including a fast-track peer-review opportunity for publication in IJMS and certificates of recognition. All accepted abstracts will be published in the IJMS supplement with a DOI, allowing your research to reach a broader audience.

This innovative conference aims to foster collaboration, inspire motivation, and promote the integration of medical students and young physicians into the dynamic world of medical research.

  We're thrilled to share with you the latest issue of the International Journal of Medical Students (IJMS). This is an issue full of diverse approaches to medical students everyday' questions. We begin with AI and follow through a sum of articles that lead us to an award winning writer reflection 40 years after medical school.  

  Our Editorial explores the integration and implications of artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine and medical education. It discusses the potential of AI to transform healthcare by personalizing education, increasing diagnostic accuracy, and aiding in decision-making, while also highlighting the ethical, legal, and practical challenges involved. We are inviting readers to meditate about the use of AI in medicine and submit their studies to the IJMS to scale up the discussions on the topic from the perspective of medical students. 

  This edition presents a diverse collection of sixteen publications, including seven original research articles, one narrative and one systematic review, two case reports, and five experience articles, all authored by medical students and early career scientists. This issue explores significant health-related themes such as mental health disorders among medical students, with findings on the high prevalence of generalized anxiety and depression, and their impact on life and study habits. Other studies examine the effects of sleep quality, stress, and gut-brain interaction disorders on student well-being. Additional contributions address practical aspects of medical training and practice, including evaluations of residency program content, the impact of language barriers in medical missions, and the appropriateness of antibiotic use in clinical settings. The issue also includes insightful case reports and discussions on public health initiatives and medical socialization, providing a comprehensive overview of current challenges and experiences in the medical field.
