In-House Writer Internship

10 hours per week, unpaid

Applications for Spring 2022, Summer 2022, and Fall 2022 semesters deadline: November 30, 2021

The IJMS is a peer-reviewed open-access journal (ISSN 2076-6327) created to share the scientific production and experiences of medical students and recently graduated physicians worldwide, published by the University Library System at the University of Pittsburgh. Our objective is to be the primary diffusion platform for medical students, using standards that follow the process of scientific publication. We publish issues four times a year (Mar, Jun, Sep, and Dec) that include an average of 15 articles per issue.

Roles:

  • Interact with non-native English speakers that have submitted their articles for publication in IJMS,
  • Review/proofread accepted articles before their publication to standardize the writing,
  • Review/proofread articles that have the potential for publication,
  • Elaborate guidelines and written material, and help with the details of the shaping of a scientific medical journal,
  • Participate in editorial and production planning meetings,
  • Conduct research on alumni and faculty we intend to feature.

Essentially, you will learn every facet of putting together a scientific journal, from brainstorming story ideas to updating databases and proofreading. One of the great rewards of being an intern at the IJMS is that your name is included in the credits of every article you work on. In addition, as part of a global team, your name will be posted on our website Editorial Team site (https://ijms.info/IJMS/about/editorialTeam) as well as in our full credits published page (Page 3: https://ijms.info/IJMS/article/view/1190/1255)

QUALIFICATIONS: This internship is being offered only to Pitt students. Preference is given to candidates from the Pitt English Department and to those students who plan to receive course credits for the internship.
