Faithfulness Omotosho

Faithfulness Kristitofunmi Omotosho obtained a First-Class Honors degree in Biochemistry from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), and is currently a fourth-year medical student at the College of Health Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.

Combining her expertise in biochemistry with her ongoing medical studies, Faithfulness is deeply interested in translational research and clinical practice. Her specific focus lies in preventive/precision oncology and women's reproductive health. With the ultimate goal of becoming a physician-scientist in gynecology oncology, she aims to merge her medical proficiency with research to drive significant advancements in these fields.

As a budding student researcher, Faithfulness recently achieved the honor of being selected as a 2024 Pan-Africa Organization for Health Education and Research (POHER) Scholar for the research mentorship program, underscoring her dedication to advancing her research skills and making valuable contributions to the field of healthcare. She has also co-authored an unpublished paper titled "Assessment of Knowledge, Attitude, and Willingness to Pursue Oncology Specialty Among Undergraduate Medical Students in Southwest, Nigeria (2022)." The paper showcases her research capabilities and recently won the Best Oral Presentation award at the 3rd scientific conference of the Obafemi Awolowo University Medical Student's Association.

Additionally, Faithfulness is strongly committed to promoting maternal and child health and upholding medical ethics. She is currently the research team Lead for the MAKAMEDS study aimed at assessing Nigerian medical students' knowledge of Medical ethics and exploring how this impacts their perspectives on their training as future physicians. She possesses exceptional organizational, time management, and multitasking skills, which she has honed through her volunteer work and dedication to serving others. Faithfulness's empathetic and compassionate nature allows her to pay meticulous attention to detail while maintaining a strong desire to make a tangible social impact. She emphasizes effective communication and strives to convey complex medical information with clarity and empathy to patients, colleagues, and stakeholders.

Throughout her academic journey, Faithfulness has demonstrated exceptional leadership abilities, having held various roles including Assistant Program Coordinator for the Standing Committee on Medical Education (SCOME) and Secretary and Medical Content Writer for the NiMSA Medical Ethics Advocacy within the Obafemi Awolowo University Medical Student Association (IFUMSA). She actively contributes to the empowerment of women in STEM fields as the Mentorship Program Relations for Empowering Female Minds in STEM (EFeMS), a Canadian non-profit organization (www.empoweringfems.com)

Faithfulness has received notable recognition for her exceptional achievements, including the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry Student Award of Excellence and the FUTA School of Sciences Dean's Award. She maintains active membership in esteemed professional associations such as the World Medical Association, the Oncology Interest Group Nigeria, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), thereby expanding her knowledge and networking opportunities within the medical community.

Outside of her academic and professional pursuits, Faithfulness finds joy in her faith, and musical talent and excels in playing the guitar. She also thrives on engaging with like-minded individuals who share her interests and aspirations.
