Adwaith Krishna Surendran

alternatetext

My name is Adwaith Krishna Surendran, Adwaith is a final-year medical student at JIPMER, one of India’s top medical institutions, with a deep passion for research, academic publishing and medical innovation. His research journey hesitantly in his second year of medical school, building on an observational study on hypertension he had conducted in high school. But as he completed his first project in internal medicine, he found himself genuinely drawn to research and biostatistics, areas that made him feel alive amidst the enormous syllabus every medical student has to tackle. Over the years, he has authored original articles, case reports, case series, and letters to editors, along with literature and systematic reviews. His editorial experience includes serving as the Assistant Editor for the International Journal of Molecular and Immuno- Oncology and as a peer reviewer for journals like the American Journal of Case Reports and Medical Science Monitor. Believing that research should be an integral part of medical education, he co-founded ‘Nurture Oncology,’ an undergraduate-friendly, oncology-focused research society that helps students engage with research through article review sessions and collaborative projects. Beyond medicine, his hobbies extend to programming, something he first explored in high school and later resurfaced during medical school through courses in R and Machine Learning. During the third year, he worked on developing a mental health and wellness app in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology and contributed to an artificial intelligence model project under the mentorship of a medical oncology faculty while exploring AI’s diverse applications in medicine. More than just reviewing manuscripts, he looks forward to engaging with diverse research ideas, learning from them and helping shape the scientific discourse among medical students worldwide.
