My name is Agnes Zanotto Manoel, is a fourth-year medical student at the Federal University of Rio Grande, located in the non-tropical region of extreme South Brazil. From the onset of her medical education, Agnes has been driven by her conviction in the intrinsic link between quality research efforts and the tangible benefits they offer to patient communities through evidence-based practice, causing a real impact into society. She has demonstrated her commitment to research by actively serving in various leadership roles within her school. She has served as the Director of the Scientific Research Center of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) Brazil FEMPAR and has held the position of Scientific Director of LACTCV-Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery Interest Group. Additionally, she has been a member of several interest groups, including Médico de Olhos AS-Ophthalmology Interest Group, LACIC-Surgery Interest Group, LIANCX- Neurosurgery Interest Group, LACCAD-Gastroenterology Interest Group, LIMASTO-Mastology Interest Group, LIARDI-Radiology Interest Group, and LACM-Internal Medicine Interest Group. These groups also provide internships to medical students, enriching their learning experiences. Notably, Agnes has made significant contributions to academic publications. She is the first author of a book chapter titled “MAYARO virus,” published in 2020. Additionally, she has been a main author of na ebook and physical book titled “Basic Manual of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery,” which is open access, fulfilling the purpose of spreading knowledge widely, particularly in Latin America. Furthermore, Agnes’s dedication to the advancement of medical knowledge extends beyond her academic pursuits; she had been a member of the scientific organizing committee for the largest Brazilian congress organized by medical students (CONCIAM). Agnes has also engaged in international research efforts, including her first publication indexed on PubMed, which investigated the relation between Covid and anxiety among Brazilians. She also participates in the Cancer Prevention Research Group Lab in Greece. Agnes actively participates in the Global Surgery Lab from the University of British Columbia (UBC), demonstrating her commitment to addressing global health challenges and disparities..
