YYvan Zolo, is a 2022 Mandela Rhodes scholar. He obtained his doctor of medicine degree from the University of Buea in July 2021. He is pursuing a master of sciences degree in Global Surgery at the University of Cape Town. He is passionate about reducing inequalities observed in neurosurgical care provision in Low and Middle Income Countries. He nurtured his passion in numerous organizations, including the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies’ Global Neurosurgery Junior Committee, where he is in the advocacy and secretariat teams, and the Association of Future African Neurosurgeons (AFAN). He has published a considerable number of papers; one of his landmark papers published in the British Journal of Neurosurgery investigated aspiring neurosurgeons’ challenges. With his co-authors and Yvan used their findings to develop opportunities for aspiring neurosurgeons on the African continent. His leadership skills led him to the presidency of AFAN, where he has overseen its expansion across Africa.
