Dear Readers,
We are thrilled to present the latest issue of the International Journal of Medical Students (IJMS), Vol. 12 No. 3 (2024). This edition features a dynamic editorial titled "Bridging Innovation and Education: IJMS Volume 12 Issue 3 and the 2024 World Conference on Medical Student Research (WCMSR)," highlighting the exciting developments within this volume and the upcoming conference. As we finalize preparations for the WCMSR, scheduled for October 26th, 2024, on our YouTube channel, we are excited to share that the agenda of speakers has been selected, and we are in the final stages before this grand event. You can join the live stream here: WCMSR 2024.
This issue includes an impressive range of articles. Highlights from the original research section include "The Power of Story Slams: A Mixed-Method Analysis of Narrative Medicine Connecting, Encouraging, and Comforting Healthcare Trainees and Professionals" and studies on stress levels and coping strategies in medical students, the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown on cancer referrals, and antimicrobial resistance patterns in Pakistan. Other significant contributions examine syphilis screening among unhoused populations in the USA and the influence of media coverage on therapeutic use in COVID-19 patients.
In our short communications, we explore evolving trends in pediatric consultations for allergy/immunology. Our reviews provide valuable insights into vascular anomalies of the head and neck, the use of ultrasound in anatomical dissection courses, and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on physical activity in children. The case reports section offers intriguing cases, including an atypical sellar mass and successful subungual glomus tumor removal.
We also feature inspiring experiences such as "Innovating Against Odds: A Medical Student’s Research Journey in a Resource-Constrained Environment" and "The Shame Is Not Mine: Addressing Abuse of Power Dynamics in Medical Training."
Finally, our Letter to the Editor addresses the intricacies of using spaced repetition tools in medical education.
