  The International Journal of Medical Students (IJMS) is pleased to invite you to the 2026 World Conference of Medical Student Research (WCMSR), taking place live on July 11 and 12, 2026.

  WCMSR 2026 brings together medical students, trainees, and early-career researchers from institutions across the world for two days of scientific exchange. This year’s program features oral and poster presentations spanning clinical medicine, public health, medical education, artificial intelligence, pharmacovigilance, surgery, mental health, infectious diseases, and other areas of biomedical and health sciences research.

  Dear IJMS Readers,

  On behalf of the International Journal of Medical Students (IJMS), we are pleased to announce the research selected for presentation at the World Conference of Medical Student Research (WCMSR), taking place on July 11–12, 2026 freely available for everyone and streemed online in our YouTube channel

  This year, WCMSR received nearly 200 submissions from medical students and young researchers worldwide. Following a rigorous peer-review and scoring process, the Scientific Committee selected the highest-scoring submissions for podium and poster presentation. While scientific quality was the primary selection criterion, the final program also reflects the conference's commitment to global participation and international collaboration, with representation from countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

  Many conferences offer opportunities to present research, but few are specifically designed around the academic progression of medical students and recent graduates. WCMSR was created with that purpose in mind, providing an international platform where early-career researchers can present their work, gain formal academic recognition, and engage with a global audience.

  If you are considering submitting, the section below answers the most common questions and clarifies what participation can offer from an academic and career perspective.

  1) Does submitting an abstract actually matter for my career?
  Yes. Conference abstracts are a distinct category in residency and fellowship applications. They demonstrate research productivity, dissemination, and peer engagement and are often listed separately from full publications.

  2) If my abstract is published, can I still publish the full paper later?
  Yes. Abstract supplements are considered grey literature and do not preclude submission of a full manuscript, provided it is substantially expanded.

  3) Is this conference legitimate and recognized?
  Yes. It is organized by the International Journal of Medical Students, a U.S.-registered nonprofit published by the University of Pittsburgh Library System, operating within a formal editorial and peer-review structure.

  4) Is the conference competitive?

  • Date: November 15th, 2025

  • Format: Fully Online and Interactive

  • Submission Period: June 11th, 2025 – September 30th, 2025

  • Results Announcement: October 20th, 2025

  Key Features:

  • Accepted Areas of Research: Clinical Medicine, Surgery, Public Health, Epidemiology, Basic Science in Medicine, and Medical Education Research.

  • Submission Requirements: Abstracts must be no more than 500 words, structured according to the type of research, and include one figure or table.

  • Submission Fee: Fees are based on World Bank income classifications and are designed to ensure equitable participation from researchers in all economic contexts.

  • Awards: Top presentations will be awarded certificates and the opportunity for fast-track publication in the IJMS journal. Additional awards will be given for Best Research Presentation, Best Case Report, and Most-Liked Presentation.

  Submission Process:

  1. Abstract Submission: Submit your abstract through the IJMS website. Be sure to select "Abstracts of the WCMSR" as the submission type.

  2. Fees: A submission fee is required, with payment made through PayPal. A copy of your payment must be uploaded as a supplementary file during submission.

  3. Presentation: If your abstract is selected, you will be required to submit a video of your presentation prior to the event.

  We're thrilled to share with you the latest issue of the International Journal of Medical Students (IJMS). This is an issue full of diverse approaches to medical students everyday' questions. We begin with AI and follow through a sum of articles that lead us to an award winning writer reflection 40 years after medical school.  

  Our Editorial explores the integration and implications of artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine and medical education. It discusses the potential of AI to transform healthcare by personalizing education, increasing diagnostic accuracy, and aiding in decision-making, while also highlighting the ethical, legal, and practical challenges involved. We are inviting readers to meditate about the use of AI in medicine and submit their studies to the IJMS to scale up the discussions on the topic from the perspective of medical students. 

  This edition presents a diverse collection of sixteen publications, including seven original research articles, one narrative and one systematic review, two case reports, and five experience articles, all authored by medical students and early career scientists. This issue explores significant health-related themes such as mental health disorders among medical students, with findings on the high prevalence of generalized anxiety and depression, and their impact on life and study habits. Other studies examine the effects of sleep quality, stress, and gut-brain interaction disorders on student well-being. Additional contributions address practical aspects of medical training and practice, including evaluations of residency program content, the impact of language barriers in medical missions, and the appropriateness of antibiotic use in clinical settings. The issue also includes insightful case reports and discussions on public health initiatives and medical socialization, providing a comprehensive overview of current challenges and experiences in the medical field.

  Dr. Abdelrahman I. Abushouk, MD, FESC, is an ECFMG-certified physician who serves as a current research fellow at the Cleveland Clinic's Heart, Vascular and Thoracic Institute. Before, he worked as a research fellow at the Perfuse Study Group, based at BIDMC and Harvard Medical School. He is also a fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (Scientific Excellence Track) and a collegiate of the "Sigma Xi ΣΞ} Research Honor Society". He is a member of the Global Burden of Disease study and serves on the editorial board of "Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine" and "BMC Cardiovascular Disorders" journals. His published research was cited in >30 National/International guidelines, drug updates, and state policies and was covered in major media outlets, including Reuters, Scientific American, among others.

  It is our pleasure to share the latest issue of the International Journal of Medical Students (IJMS).

  We are very pleased to announce that on November 12th, 2022, the first IJMS World Conference of Medical Student Research will take place online. Medical students and recent graduates (up to 3 years after graduation) can present their research to a global audience.

  The abstract submission system is open, please make sure to follow the instructions for submissions. The deadline for abstract submission is October 15th, 2022. If you have any queries or need assistance, please visit our website or contact conference@ijms.info.
